La Quinta Is Ready For The Season!

This is one of my favorite times of year in The Desert.  All the grasses have been changed from the summer seeding to the winter and they are now coming up green and beautiful. The winter flowers are being planted,  everything is looking spectacular, and the weather is perfect.  Here in La Quinta, the inventory for homes for sale is still very low.  The prices have started to rise, but there are still great values compared to anywhere else this beautiful!  What a great time to check it out before everyone else arrives!

Hot off the Press: New Membership Prices for The Citrus & PGA West!

The Citrus Club/La Quinta Resort and The PGA West Communities announced some unbelievable new prices for their golf memberships today!  At the Citrus Club, the membership that formally cost $100,000 and was a refundable membership is still available.  However, a new category has been added; a non-refundable membership priced at…..drum roll please…..$30,000!  This still includes the 3 golf courses, the tennis facility at the Resort, the Spa, the exercise facility at the Resort, the exercise facility at The Citrus Club, and two different Club Houses. In addition, the social membership, which includes everything except golf has been lowered to $5000 instead of  the previous $15,000.   At PGA West, in addition to the refundable membership of $125,000,  there now is also a non-refundable component which will cost $40,000 for all the same priviledges!    This includes the 6 golfcourses at PGA West, the tennis, the exercise facility, all the Club Houses, etc!  PGA West is also offering a non-refundable social membership of $5000.  The monthly dues at both clubes will remain unchanged.  What an exciting time to think of joining a wonderful golf club in the desert!

The Desert Happy Hour Map

Yes, it’s been heating up out here… but I’d argue it’s been heating up in all the right ways! Fires have been blazing on the menus at some of the best restaurants and bars in town! There are GREAT happy hours specials in the summer out here. It almost doesn’t make sense to go to the grocery store when you have these kind of deals (or at least, that’s what I tell myself). The grid below the map outlines the specials highlighted at some of our local establishments (the red color indicates the hottest deals). The map below has locations, and if you click on the icon on the map, it will pop up more information including a link to the restaurant’s website. Let us know if we missed any good happy hour spots. Enjoy and leave a comment about your favorite happy hour spot. (Can you beat all-night at Hog’s Breath?)

Note: This includes only the east valley. Palm Springs was not considered (and I know there are some great deals there too.)

Old Town La Quinta Had Some Special Visitors

Old Town, La Quinta (which is actually new) is a great destination to visit while in the La Quinta area. It is composed of several streets of small and unique shops as well as gourmet restaurants and offices all built using Spanish architecture. Old Town is yet another example of how La Quinta is trying to be relavant.  The Village of La Quinta, located between Washington Street and Eisenhower and Calle Tampico and Avenue 52, has several restaurants, with everything from casual dining to gourmet, Mexican to French to American to Seafood, Banks, a Hardware, Old Town Celler & Wine Bar, a village park with playing fields, a Post Office, Police Station and a lot of nice people – a little bit of everything you might need.

On April 24, 2010, some special visitors, who were in town for the annual “Stage Coach” country music festival held at the Empire Polo Grounds that weekend decide to pay Old Town a visit.

Better Weather in The Desert!

Hi Everyone!  Happy October 1 in the Desert!  The hot, hot weather seems to have suddenly disappeared and we are just starting to have some beautiful days.  Today it is supposed to be in the 80’s.  The days are beautiful and sunny as always, but now it is almost back to the Desert that beckons us outside.

I say “almost” because we are now going through the grass change time, or the more appropriate name being “scalping time” on the golf courses.  This is when the summer golf course grasses (the bermuda grass) are let to go dry and die.  Then the dead grass is scalped down to the dirt and new winter grass (rye) is planted.  Within a few weeks the grasses turn a beautiful green and the new “Season” is upon us.

So, with all this being said, now is a great time to come to the Desert, not sweat to death, and buy a home while they are still great deals, and before the season begins and the crowds arrive!

Things to do.

Whether you are here just visiting, a seasonal or full time resident or if you are making future plans,  we have an extraordinary amount of very different things to do. Obviously, there is a lot of golf – more than 120 courses – within the Coachella Valley and many welcome the public. Click to find local tee times.

Like the outdoors? There are several mapped trails throughout our local mountains including the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up to the 8,500 foot level of Mount San Jacinto. Each town along the Santa Rosa range has maintained, mapped trails up into the local mountains.

We also have a great National Park – Joshua Tree – located on the mountain range to the northeast of Indio. There is an entrance from I-10 about 25 miles east of Indio.

If you would like to learn some pretty interesting stuff about our local geology including the famous San Andreas Fault try a great “Red Jeep Tour” where you can ride a Jeep into the fault and learn how/why Los Angeles will someday be north of San Francisco…

Learn what all those windmills are about and just how much energy they produce…

If you are more interested in indoor entertainment, there is a great theater show in Palm Springs – the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies – that is very entertaining for the mature crowd since the performers are between 57 and 85 years of age. A great theater for the performing arts is the McCallum Theater in Palm Desert.

Do you need to entertain the kids? Try Knot’s Soak City Water Park in Cathedral City.

Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert has lots of animals from all over the world.

Children’s Discovery Museum in Rancho Mirage

Palm Springs Air Museum has a great display of WWII aircraft.

How about a balloon ride over the valley?

Just want to go out and have a good time?

World-class shopping and art galleries on Palm Desert’s “El Paseo” shopping district.

Cabazon Outlets discount shopping at it’s best about 40 minutes west of the desert on I-10.

A lot of these websites offer additional info on local activities…
